Success Stories Of The Patients Of Heart Care Foundation Fund

F C Jain,71, from Agra approached Padmashri, Dr B C Roy National and DST National Science Communication Awardee Dr K KAggarwal at Sameer Malik Heart Care Foundation Fund. He needed assistance regarding blockages in his heart. He was advised angiography and interventions in Agra for which he was asked to deposit Rs 2.5 lakhs even before going through an angiography. He has a family of six to support with an annual income of less than Rs 90,000. The fund investigated his case; while his treadmill test proved mildly positive, there was absolutely no need for an angiography or a surgery. He was put on medical treatment and saved from a possible cardiac intervention or a bypass surgery.

Komal, a 15 year old child from New Delhi was diagnosed with a hole in her heart. The child was in constant fear of not being able to lead a normal life. Her father, Dharam Pal’s annual income is a meager 50000 rupees. The family approached Padmashri, Dr B C Roy National and DST National Science Communication Awardee Dr K KAggarwal at the Sameer Malik Heart Care Foundation Fund for supporting the procedure. A free color Doppler echocardiography was done by DrAggarwal who then concluded that she has a restrictive small VSD which required no repair, and medication would help it heal. The surgery was averted as was a huge expense which would take a chunk way from the savings of the family. It is a common misunderstanding that every heart related ailment requires a surgery however patients with heart diseases can lead a normal life even without surgeries (depending on the detailed diagnosis of the case).

Dayanand is a labourer in Palam Colony of Delhi with means of Rs 4000 a month. He was diagnosed with a heart ailment and advised to go for a CRT pacemaker costing Rs 7.5 lac. Dayanand approached the Fund for support. He was evaluated by over doctors and was found to have no parameters to suggest that he needed a CRT pacemaker. Had he not sought help from the Fund, Dayanand would have ended up selling his house to meet the expenses of his surgery.

Prem Pal, 42, approached us for a valve replacement. We came to know from him that he had been asked to deposit 2.5 lac in a private hospital in Delhi.DrAggarwal conducted a diagnosis following which it was concluded that a surgery would not be necessary. However, just to be sure, a second opinion was taken from AIIMS and the doctors there were of the same opinion. He has been given a 50% drug assistance by the fund. Timely intervention by the fund helped Prem Pal save his savings of a life time by avoiding an unnecessary surgery.
